What is the SAT?

The SAT is a digital, two-hour standardized test that assesses a student’s readiness for college. Accepted by most U.S. colleges and universities, it evaluates critical reading, writing, and math skills, providing a benchmark for admissions decisions.

SAT Content Breakdown

The SAT consists of two main sections:
 

  1. Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (EBRW):
     

    • Reading Section: Students analyze passages from literature, history, social science, and science to answer comprehension and reasoning questions.
       

    • Writing and Language Section: Focuses on grammar, vocabulary in context, and sentence structure to improve clarity and effectiveness.
       

  2. Math:

    • Covers algebra, problem-solving, data analysis, and some advanced topics like geometry and trigonometry.
       

    • Two Subsections:

      • Calculator-allowed

      • No-calculator

SAT Format

  • Test Mode: Digital (adaptive testing adjusts questions based on your performance)
     

  • Duration: Approximately 2 hours
     

  • Question Types: Multiple-choice and grid-in responses
     

  • Total Questions: ~98 questions (varies slightly by test)

SAT Scoring

  • Total Score Range: 400 to 1600 points
     

  • Sections Scored Separately: EBRW (200–800) and Math (200–800)
     

  • Subscores Provided: Detailed insights into strengths and areas for improvement.
     

  • No Penalty for Wrong Answers: Only correct responses are counted. Focus on attempting every question
     

  • Score Availability: Typically released 2-3 weeks after test day.
